I’m just coming off a year long hiatus from taking commission requests. With a new request on the horizon, I thought it might be interesting to share stories of several past commissions that highlight how my commission process works.
A family in Silicon Valley saw my work and contacted me to see if I would be able to recreate a painting they liked in a larger format to fit a custom made niche in their under-construction home. They came to my studio to see the piece that caught their eye to make sure the colors were exactly what they wanted. It was. We then discussed size, price and delivery date. After their house was finished, I was delighted to be invited to a celebration of all the artists, designers and crew who contributed to the construction of their home. The above painting is installed in their grand foyer.
One spring a couple saw my paintings through the window at “April in Paris” on Clement St. in San Francisco. They sent me an email and asked if they could see more work. I invited them to my studio and showed them a selection of paintings. With a specific space and theme in mind, we discussed making a dramatic sunset painting to fit over their fireplace. They let me know what they liked about each of my existing sunset inspired paintings. I took notes and made sure to add those elements to the painting.
A year after I had done a commission for a law firm in Boston, I was contacted again to create paintings for the lobby and a conference room for a new space they were moving into. Their interior designer reached out to me with color swatches and size requirements for two new paintings. We had several email exchanges discussing color scheme and I showed her in-progress photos for approval. When I finished the paintings, I sent an email for final approval with high-res images before shipping the paintings to Boston.
If you are thinking you might want to create a special painting just for you, a loved one or for a corporate environment — Let’s talk! Schedule a consultation. I’m available to consult with you in person, via email or phone to work out a plan.
Cost is dependent on size. 50% of the payment is required for deposit. The balance is due upon completion. I send two in-progress photos of the painting to ensure the work is on track. The timeline is 4-6 weeks. You are welcome to see the painting in person or I will email a photo when finished. You have final approval before delivery.
I look forward to working with you!
